Day 01 : Departing from Quito
We begin our journey with private transportation from your hotel in Quito, heading south along the scenic Avenue of the Volcanoes.
Our first stop takes us to the authentic Andean markets of Saquisilí (Thursdays) or Pujilí (Sundays), where vibrant colors, local flavors, and centuries-old traditions come alive. Discover the daily rhythm of rural life as locals trade produce, textiles, and handmade crafts.
Continue towards the high Andes for a cultural encounter with a local family. Learn about their traditions, agriculture, and artisan crafts that reflect the ancestral spirit of the region.
We then visit the artistic community of Tigua, world-famous for its brightly colored naive paintings that capture Andean myths, legends, and everyday life. You’ll have the chance to see artists at work and learn about their creative process.
Along the route, enjoy a panoramic view of the impressive Toachi River Canyon, a geological marvel carved by volcanic activity over centuries.
Finally, we arrive at the stunning Quilotoa Lagoon (3,900 meters / 12,795 ft) a turquoise crater lake formed inside a dormant volcano. Spend about 3 hours exploring the area: Hike down to the lagoon’s edge and feel the serenity of the Andes reflected in its calm waters.
Optional kayaking is available for those who wish to paddle across this breathtaking setting.
The return hike is steep and demanding — a horseback ride back to the viewpoint is available for an additional cost.
After a memorable day surrounded by art, culture, and nature, we begin our return journey to Quito, arriving in the late afternoon.
